Meet Stephanie Schnepp, MD

Breast Surgeon & Specialist | Board-Certified General Surgeon

Dr. Stephanie Schnepp has specialized in breast surgery and breast health for over 15 years, with extensive experience evaluating and treating a variety of benign and malignant breast problems.

Dr. Schnepp believes in a personalized and proactive approach to breast health and in utilizing shared decision making with patients.  She values unrushed time spent with patients and wants them to feel fully informed so they feel they are truly active participants in their own breast health journey.

She sees patients with any breast concerns, such as masses noted on exam, abnormal findings on breast imaging (mammogram, ultrasound, or breast MRI), abnormal breast biopsy results, breast abscesses and infections, nipple discharge, and breast pain.  She offers detailed interactive discussions of imaging findings and biopsy results, listens to all questions and concerns and thoroughly explains the risks and benefits of each option for the possible next steps in evaluation and treatment.   She has extensive experience and expertise in various breast oncology and benign breast surgical procedures.  She pursues continuing education to stay current with the latest treatment guidelines and offers less-invasive approaches when possible.

She sees patients who may be at high risk for breast cancer due to various risk factors such as family history or very dense tissue on mammogram to help them navigate screening recommendations and risk-reduction strategies including lifestyle modification strategies for cancer risk-reduction, in addition to surgical and medical risk reduction options.

Dr. Schnepp welcomes seeing patients who have a personal history of breast cancer and are looking for a proactive approach to thriving in life after diagnosis.

While traditional medical and surgical treatments remain the cornerstone of breast cancer treatment, she also focuses on adding evidence-based approaches that utilize the synergistic effects of lifestyle modification factors to optimize outcomes as well as preserve and improve quality of life during and after treatment.

Dr. Schnepp has been board certified in Surgery by the American Board of Surgery since 2008 and additionally became double board certified in Lifestyle Medicine by the American Board of Lifestyle Medicine in 2025.  She is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a Diplomate of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine.   She is a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons, the Society of Surgical Oncology, and the Society of Integrative Oncology.

She maintains certification in breast ultrasound from the American Society of Breast Surgeons. Her skills and experience allow her to offer in-office ultrasound-guided procedures such as needle aspirations and core needle biopsies. She uses ultrasound to localize lesions during surgical procedures in the operating room, often minimizing the need for additional pre-surgery localization procedures at separate appointments.

Dr. Schnepp grew up in St. Louis through high school, attending Cor Jesu Academy.  She obtained her undergraduate degree in Cell and Molecular Biology with a double major in Exercise Physiology from Tulane University in New Orleans, where she was a member of the Tulane Cross Country and Track teams.   She spent one year as a middle school science teacher and girls’ volleyball and track coach in Killeen, Texas, before returning to New Orleans to earn her medical degree from Tulane School of Medicine.  She then spent 5 years at the University of Missouri-Kansas City for General Surgery residency training.  She moved back to St. Louis in 2008 upon completion of her surgical training and has focused her practice exclusively on breast surgery and breast care since 2010.  Dr. Schnepp has been named a Castle Connolly Top Doctor in Surgery and Castle Connolly Exceptional Woman in Medicine in 2025 and 2026 and has been featured in St. Louis Magazine’s Top Doctors list.

She and her husband have two teenage sons and two dogs.  In her free time, she enjoys running, snow skiing, and watching her sons play sports.  She recently tried some new hobbies such as learning to play Mahjong and pottery making.
